Here is a story about a
remarkable man, Viktor Frankl, who found himself incarcerated in a Nazi
concentration camp during world war II. A prominent psychologist before the war
dramatically changed his life, Frankl suffered the fate of millions of Jews,
hard labor under the most awful conditions imaginable. Every single day many of
his fellow prisoners would die from malnutrition, savage beatings or from being
herded off to the gas chambers, the ultimate humiliation.
Despite the severity of
his conditions, Viktor Frankl realized there was one element that his captors
could not control, which is his attitude. He chose to live. And absolutely
nothing would shift his resolve to win this greatest of human battles.
To alleviate his
terrifying circumstances, he focused on a positive picture of the future. He
visualized being a successful psychologist, attending concerts and enjoying a
fulfilling lifestyle. Never did he allow himself to surrender to the
depravation that was going on all around him. This incredible fortitude,
decisiveness, persistence and strength of character eventually paid off when
the war ended. Those who had nothing to live for did not survive the war.
Viktor Frankl went on
to become one of the world’s most renowed therapist and inspirational leader.
The book detailing his struggles, “Man’s Search
For Meaning”, is a classic.
WHY
HESITATE?
Upon
the plains of hesitation are the bleached bones of countless millions, who on
the threshold of victory sat down to wait and in waiting they died.
