Standing before the
roaring waters, Moses was about to do something that had never been done
before. Behind him were hundreds of thousands of Jews whom he had liberated
from the claws of the heathen king. Behind them was a raging army of Egyptians
thirsty for blood and still perplexed about how they had allowed their own
slaves leave. Moses was somehow, going to cross the sea without a ship. He
didn’t even have a canoe! This was totally insane!
As he stood, his mind
recalled everything that had happened. He had tried to liberate his people, but
ended up killing one man and becoming a fugitive from justice. He was only
forty years old then, when he fled from Egypt to Midian. He did not have to go
by sea. He settled down and raised a family. After another forty years, God
called him to return to Egypt to liberate His people. He gave him the sign and
wonders that would make it happen. God did not say anything about crossing the
sea. Indeed, they were well out of the land of Egypt when the Lord told moses
that He did not want them to go through the land of the Philistines because He
did not want them to faint for fear of war. He had another plan. He wanted them
to go through the route of the red Sea. There was just one problem there were
no ships waiting to take them across!
Sometimes, walking with
God will have you on your toes. Truth be told, the walk of faith is not a
journey for the fainthearted or the unbelieving. Your self confidence is
important; your courage is crucial but personal confidence and courage will not
be enough to see you through this journey. We will need Godfidence! Godfidence is
not something you get from reading a self help book or attending another
seminar. There is nothing wrong with self help book or attending seminars, but
these things will never be able to provide what only God can provide. You don’t
want to show up for a gun fight wielding a razor blade. If you point your
finger at David and how he fought Goliath – remember that he did not do it in
his personal strength. It took more than self confidence for David to defeat
Goliath, he had Godfidence!
David replied to the Philistine, You come to me with a sword, spear
and javeline, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies –
the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. – 1 Samuel 17:45 (NLT)
David did not go with a
five step plan on how to use a slingshot; he was an expert with the slingshot
nonetheless. He did not go with a note on how to sidestep a giant even though
he was a smart chap. He went with full confidence in what God could do. That
made him stands apart from the entire army of Israel.
Gideon matched a bunch
of three hundred men with little experience against an army of Midianites who
were so many, they were described as grasshoppers in number. What made Gideon
so confident? Definitely not his pedigree. He had none. He was the least in his
household. His household was the least in his clan. His clan was the least in
Israel. He neither had finances nor fame working for him. But God had a plan
for his life, and while he was hiding in fear, threshing wheat in the
winepress. God began to talk to him about how he was a mighty man.
If you are going to
fulfil destiny and be all you were born to be, you have to realize that the
power you need to make things happen is from God and not from you. It is
important that we get the requisite skill, knowledge and training, but when the
rubber hits the road, we must rely on the power of God if we want to do
anything lasting and meaningful.
Moses stood before the
sea, his heart pounding, as the weary
Israelites began to murmur and complain behind him. At this point, neither his
leadership skills acquired in the palace of Egypt, nor his shepherding dexterity
acquired in the Midianite desert could save him. Only God could help him now.
And the Lord said to Moses, why do you cry to Me? Tell the children
of Israel to go forward.” – Exodus 14-15
God told Moses to do
what no one else would have ever advised him to do. God asked him to tell the Israelites
to go forward! Not mindling the raging
sea ahead of them, God asked the children of Israel to go forward. It
definitely couldn’t have been funny for them to stand and watch the waters
part. It took a lot of faith to walk through the Red Sea as the waters stood
high on either side. But God’s instruction to them was to go forward!
If you will achieve
that dream, you must put your faith in God and go forward with the instructions
He gace you. Forget the past. Let go your previous failures. Walk away from the
drama and troubles that tried to pin you down and take you away from God’s
plans. Has God instructed you to do anything? Go forward.
If you go forward with
Godfidence, you will break through troops and leap over walls. If you go
forward with Godfidence, you will surmount every obstacle the enemy puts in
your way. If you go forward in obedience to God’s word, you will beat every
curve that will throw at you. The giants will fall flat when his battle is
over. The greater one is in you. Don’t stop. Don’t faint. Don’t give up. Go
forward. God has got you covered.
You will do well.
