May the favor
of the Lord our God rest upon us; establish the work of our hands for us—“Psalm
90:17”
There is nothing
quite like when God speaks a word to you. Something within you leaps. The word
of God is alive. It is so powerful that when it hits your spirit, you shout and
jump. You get excited. You tell everyone. Yes, because the word of God is
alive!
However any
theology or philosophy that makes you believes that everything depends on God
is not of God. God will never do it all on his own. God always calls man to
partnership. There is the legal side and the vital side to your salvation.
Christ died and rose for you—that is the legal side. You must believe in your heart and confess
with your mouth that Jesus Christ died and rose for you, then you will be saved
(Romans 10:9-10). For every miracle
Jesus did while he walked the face of the earth, he invited the recipient to
take action. The power was not in the action, but the act of obedience released
the desired result. He told the paralytic to talk up his bed and walk. He told
the blind man to go and wash in the pull of siloam. He told the Ten Leapers to go and show
themselves to the priest. He told the man with the withered hand to stretch out
his hand. He told Peter to cast his net on the right side. The Bible is
littered with such instructions as God beckoned on man to partner with Him to
achieve supernatural results!
It is same thing
with increase. If you are going to experience increase on every side, you must
make up your mind to be a participator and not just a spectator—after all, it
is your life!
If we will
experience increase on every side, it is important that we do not deny the God
factor. It is God’s supernatural breath upon us that will make the difference.
In other words, we will need favor to go from where we are now to where we want
to be. We will need favor to transcend increase on some sides to increase on
every side. It was favor that made Joseph stand out in prison. It was favor
that made Daniel stand out even in exile. When God’s favor hits you, there is
nothing the enemy can do about it. However, while it is God’s part to breathe
favor on your life, it is your duty to put some things in place and position
for the outpouring of it.
Psalm 90:17 says
that the favours of God will rest upon us and He will establish the works of
our hands. You have to agree that if your hands are idle, there is nothing God
is going to establish. You cannot afford to be a layabout who just lounges all
day lamenting about how people have not helped him and how his uncles has
mistreated him. Get up and do something! Volunteer. Work for someone for free.
Understudy someone. Be creative. God will establish the work of your hands, but
there will be nothing to increase if you do not work!
You cannot
afford to waste the days of your youth acting like you have it all together
when in reality everything is falling apart. You cannot afford to pretend that
all is well when all is not well. Do you have a goal? Do you have a strategy?
Do you have a plan? What are you doing with what you have? Can your boss count
on you? Are you dependable?
Beyond being
hardworking, you must also decide to excel.\
“Do you see a man who excel in his work? He will
stand before kings; He will not stand before unknown men,” Proverbs 22:29
The Bible speaks
here about someone who excels at his work.
Are you
excellent? Do you take your assignments to the next level? Do your boss see you
doing better today than you did last year or even last month? You must realize
that favour will put the spotlight on you but your ethic can taint the good
things God wants to do for you. You have to make up your mind that the favour
that has come upon you this season will not be in vain. Although the Apostle
Paul was anointed and enjoyed great grace, he chose to work hard and not rest
on the grace of God.
“But by the
grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect. No, I
worked harder than all of them—yet not I, but the grace of God that was with
me”. 1 Corinthians 15:10 (NIV)
It is time for
the sons of the kingdom to stop using spirituality as an excuse for mediocrity.
If we claim that we function from a higher systems, then we must be willing to
show a higher level of excellence and resilience. Don’t quite too soon. Stick
with what God has put in your hands. Do it with all of your might. Let God’s
favour rest upon it. Like Joseph, it will be on a day you least expect that you
will be summoned to the king’s palace.
You will
increase on every side.
God will prosper
the work of your hands.
You will do
well!
