CHARACTER THE MOST POWERFUL FORCE

Character Preserves A Leader Inner Life-; A leader integrity can be fully establish with a character and also aids the growth of a leader’s personal ethics and values. Possessing character will not guarantee any leader not to experience difficulties and setbacks in life, certainly all leader experiences such.  To accomplish a long term personal & professional success, possessing a good character is indispensable.

Character Extends The Longevity Of A Leader-; Leaders don’t have a right to be followed. When a leader refuses to adhere to moral standards, he will certainly forfeit the opportunity to use his talents in the service of the followers who gave it. The privileges assigned to a leader are one which a leader must preserve through his/her character and trust attached. Restoring faith in leadership and authority can only be achieved by the power of a genuine character.

“A leader personality can open doors, but only a good character can keep the doors open (Elmer G. Leterman).”  It is only a good character that fuels a leadership role. Your gift only validates your character. So when you don’t maintain your character, your gift loses the ethical power that repels it.

As a leader, never expect your success to carry you through life. Your success should be carried along by your character. Truly, the best way to protect what you desire to accomplish as a leader and what you have already accomplished, is to develop and maintain strong personal character.

Character Protects A Leader Legacy & Cause-;
When the longevity of a leader is cut short by character deficiency, such leader will be unable to leave a legacy that he was meant to give to his generation. He has no other option but to forfeit his vision or his own participation in that vision. A leader values are personal but they are never private. Just one questionable act of a leader is enough to erase all good contribution he/she may have done.

A professor at Colombia Business School, Hitendra Wadwa, gave a good description that made “Martin Luther ing Jr”, a great leader. It was his ability to maintain his anger at the injustice and assault that were constantly thrown at him and converting the anger into a constructive purpose. The professor later concluded that: “only by taming his own anger did king earn the right to become a messenger of peaceful struggle to the people of the nation.

When we intentionally build our character, we strengthen our futilities, control our vices and prepare ourselves to fulfill our personal leadership role.

Good Character Enables a Leader from Hurting Those Around Him-;

when a leader fails or falls, there is every possibilities that his fall can deeply hurt those around him or others who have placed their trust in him. It can also go as far as destroying his life, the lives of his victims, the entire families of his victims, his own immediate family members and members of his associate’s family.

The best way to remain focus to your vision and persevere in the midst of the un-avoidable stress, critism, attacks, assault, temptation ad limitation that come with leadership role is to develop a good personal character. And the surest way to be a blessing to your generation is to preserve character.
