Seeing the world gradually
moving from an industry to a knowledge-based system, no precise thinking person
can pay no heed to the significance of education. Besides, roughly every theme beneath
the sun has been sheltered on the very relevant issue of youth and education.
The significance of education to any civilization has been debated from time
immemorial. Books have been printed, seminars and forums organized, policies
formulated, budgets allocated, and so on and so forth. In the interim, Africa,
and in particular it’s youth, continues to experience ignorance and remains on
the receiving end of the whims and caprices of more civilize nations.
A fleeting look at
world statistics would provide a clear signal on the seriousness of the circumstances.
A good education provides skills, revelation, illumination and various other reward.
Due to pitiable coaching, ignorance and poverty, the Africa Youth have turn out
to be unduly vulnerable to exploitation by dishonest politicians and government
officials. The youth have somewhat redirected their energies to felony, hostility
and drugs. Education is the link to the ability to create riches.
The African youth need
to comprehend this in order to reduce their reliance on government, family,
friends etc. They have to crop up and take hold of their destiny by doing
everything it takes to know.
Now that the hitch is
well known, how can this breach be solved?
1.
Create a vision for your life. What do
you desire to be in 10 years? Where do you see yourself? How significant do you
want to be to your family and society at large? What skills do you require to
get to your dream point? What natural talents are you gifted with? How can you connect
these talents to accomplish your life’s goals?
2.
Carry out your own research on
educational opportunities: a lot can slip by just as the appropriate
information has not been accessed. Do not linger for it to be handed down, go
search for it. African has a lot of tertiary institution that tutor on a wide variety
of subjects and vacations. Unearth the one that offers somewhat in line with
your exceptional talents. If you are theoretically minded, it’s irrelevant for you to seek out admittance to study
History, Geography, English Literature etc,,, just because those departments
offers lower admission requirements.
3.
Make well-versed assessment about the
educational opportunities: Prior to your verdict on a course of study, ask
questions, search out information on gainful employment of entrepreneurship
opportunities, evaluate study and living expenditure between institutions and
their different locations. If you get mystified with the weight of information
you acquire and are not clever to make up your mind, seek advice from
professionals and other groups of people around you. In contemporary day
Africa, it is unrealistic to study a single honours, non-professional course
and not anticipate to end up in teaching. It is laudable to note that the sensitivity
of teaching, which used to be the easiest profession to join back in the day,
has changed in modern times. If you chosoe a single-honours course, be geared
up to use your 4years study phase to also get hold of some other skills in
areas such as basic finance, management, human resources, administration,
information technology etc….. Such skills will increase your connotation in
today’s extremely competitive labour environment.
4.
Resolve to be the paramount in your preferred
field of study. Proverb 22:29: “do you see any truly
competent workers? They will serve kings rather than work ordinary people”…Let
your life orbit around hard work, self discipline, meticulousness and reliability.
You will not be saddened with the result.
5.
Make learning a lifelong habit. With each
waking day, there is something impressive to learn. Fortunately, present
technology has provided us opportunities to stay abreast of truth. Make the finest
use of the internet to augment your learning process.
Africa
has no option other than to budge with global trends. More and more young
people are becoming professionally aware, entrepreneurs are springing up
everywhere, people are increasingly demanding value for money when acquiring
goods and services. This means that the time is imminent when organization will
no longer tolerate ordinary staff just because they are related to the CEO.
Therefore the Africa youth need to gird themselves to face up to the challenges
and penalty of globalization.
